Help center

How can we help?

Answers for clients and for investigators. In the Pursuut app, the investigators you work with are called agents.

Quick note on terms

Across the Pursuut app, the investigators you work with are called agents. This site says investigators because it is the common term. These help docs use agents to match what you see in the app.

Hiring an agent for a personal matter. The investigators on Pursuut are called agents in the app.

Getting started

How do I create an account?+

Sign up on Pursuut with your email, then complete a short onboarding: your name, a phone number we verify by text message, an optional photo, and a referral code if you have one.

Why do I have to verify my phone number?+

Verifying your phone by SMS confirms you are reachable and helps keep the platform trustworthy for both you and agents. You enter a code we text to your number during onboarding.

How do I sign in?+

Use the Sign in link and the email and credentials you registered with. If you cannot sign in, use the password reset option on the sign-in screen.

I forgot my password. What do I do?+

Use the password reset option on the sign-in screen and follow the instructions sent to your email. If you still cannot get in, contact support.

What is a referral code?+

An optional code you can enter during onboarding if someone referred you. It is not required to use Pursuut.

Starting a case (intake)

How do I start a case?+

After onboarding, start a case and answer a few plain questions: the type of investigation, the scope, the location, your timeline, and the details that matter. No private-investigator knowledge is needed. We turn your answers into a clear brief that agents can act on.

What kinds of cases can I bring?+

Personal matters such as locating a person, surveillance, background checks, fraud, and family or custody concerns. You describe your situation in plain language during intake.

What should I include in the details?+

Share what you safely can about what you need, where, and by when. The clearer the brief, the better agents can assess fit. You stay in control of what you disclose.

Is the information I enter private?+

Communication on Pursuut is encrypted and you control what is disclosed. We do not reveal your last name to agents, and you decide what is shared as the case progresses.

Can I have more than one case open at a time?+

Pursuut is designed around your current case so matching stays focused. If you need to start another case, resolve or cancel the current one first. Contact support if you are stuck.

Matching and choosing an agent

How does matching work?+

Pursuut surfaces vetted, licensed agents suited to your case based on your brief. You review the matches rather than cold-calling strangers.

What does vetted and licensed mean?+

Every agent clears identity verification and licensing review before they can take a case. You are not matched with an unverified stranger.

Can I talk to an agent before I commit?+

Yes. You can message or call matched agents through the platform and decide who you trust before you agree to anything or pay.

Do I have to choose the first agent I am matched with?+

No. You decide who is the right fit. You are not obligated to proceed with any particular match.

The agreement and pricing

How does pricing work?+

Pricing depends on the type and scope of your case. You review a clear agreement with the agent before any work begins, so you know what you are paying for up front.

Are there hidden fees?+

You pay against the agreement you review. There are no surprise charges outside that agreement. If something is unclear, ask the agent before you approve it.

What if the work needs to change after we start?+

If the scope needs to change, that is handled transparently between you and the agent before additional work proceeds. Reach out to support if you have questions about a change.

Payments and billing

How do I pay?+

You pay securely in-platform against the agreement. You do not wire money to someone you just met or share card details directly with an agent.

What payment methods are accepted?+

Accepted payment methods are shown at checkout when you pay for your case.

When is the agent actually paid?+

Payment is handled by the platform around the agreement and the progress of your case rather than handed over in person. Your case activity reflects payment status as it changes.

Can I get a receipt?+

Payment records for your case are available from your account. Contact support if you need additional documentation.

During your case

How do I follow what is happening?+

You track your case with live findings and status updates as the agent works, and you are notified as things change, so you are not left wondering.

How do I communicate with my agent?+

Through encrypted in-app messaging and calling. Conversations stay between you and the agent.

Reviews

Can I review my agent?+

Yes. After your case you can rate the agent who worked it. Reviews help other clients and keep the platform accountable.

Can I change a review I left?+

If you need to update or remove a review, contact support and we will help.

Disputes and refunds

What if I am not satisfied with the work?+

You can raise a dispute on your case. Pursuut reviews disputes and a case can be resolved in different ways, including a refund where appropriate. You and the agent are notified as the dispute progresses.

How do refunds work?+

If a case is resolved with a refund, you are notified and the refund is processed back through the platform. Timing depends on your payment provider.

Canceling a case

How do I cancel a case?+

You can cancel a case that has not progressed past the point where cancellation is allowed. What happens to any payment depends on the stage of the case. Contact support if you are unsure.

Can I start a new case after canceling?+

Yes. Once your current case is canceled or resolved you can start a new one.

Privacy and safety

What can an agent see about me?+

Only what a case needs. We do not reveal your last name to agents, and you decide what is disclosed as the case progresses.

Is my communication secure?+

Yes. Messaging and calling between you and your agent are encrypted.

Your account

How do I delete my account?+

You can request account deletion from your account settings. If you have an active case, resolve or cancel it first. Some records may be retained where required. Contact support if you need help.

Can I manage notifications?+

Notification options are available in your account settings.

About Pursuut

Is Pursuut a private investigations agency?+

No. Pursuut is a platform that connects you with independent, licensed agents. We do not perform investigations ourselves.

Why does this site say investigators but the app says agents?+

They mean the same people. The marketing site uses investigators because that is the common term. In the app and these help docs we call them agents.
